WasteWood is located in Sydney’s inner west. If you need woodworking advice, woodworking equipment for your project or have questions about timber species, the team at WasteWood are ready to help. WasteWood is a welcoming business that brings the community together, keen to help anyone with an interest in woodwork at any skill level.
Being able to offer low cost wood to the local community is important to the team. Customers have always responded with warmth and kindness, showing a great deal of appreciation and trust in the business. The belief in re-use and the positive energy from the local people are inherently connected.
The waste wood is prepared in house, cleaned of debris, sorted and categorised. All the processing is done indoors to keep the timber neat and dry.
Each piece of waste wood then enters the purpose-built woodworking and major machining room, then individually held-in-hand and the team decide how to make it beautiful and attractive to be reused successfully. All the finished wood is then grouped by size, species and displayed with a focus to create an intuitive in-person wood finding experience.
Visitors find the wood they want then the woodworking and machine room becomes their own personal interactive wood recycling playground. They join in using the big machines, everything is completed on the spot, so the wood is the exact size required to start making it immediately. No second visits needed.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their own secondhand wood for any machine cutting needed also! It matters not where they got the wood, because if wood is being reused rather than chucked out, that’s worth doing.
Visitors can join the table-making process to join several pieces of wood into a single large slab. The process takes as little as 30 minutes and at most just 2 hours.
There are also a variety of small woodwork demonstrations to assist someone to make full use of their waste wood.
