If you love to play with old bits and pieces the crowded salvage yard behind Bendigo Trailers & Hardware is perfect. It’s packed with an assortment of recycled building materials, machinery, metal, plumbing, tyres, disused office and farm equipment, and the oddball contents of hundreds of old sheds.
Unlike neat city salvage yards this motley collection would suit treasure hunters with some DIY skills, or renovators/upcyclers looking for useful junk. Most of the yard is exposed to the weather so rust and well-worn patinas are common features. It’s also a huge, jumbled space so allow plenty of time to find what you need.
Old clothes might be a good idea too. I couldn’t resist dragging a few rusty treasures to the car and my outfit wasn’t ideal.
A great place to find rusted chains and parts, old tyres, tools, machinery, galvanised iron, pipes, timber, doors, stainless steel sinks, gates, cabinets, ladders, and wonderful bits and pieces you don’t know you need until you see them. One of the best spots in Victoria for random and unexpected finds.
True junk yards like this are hard to find, so drop in when you’re visiting the goldfields and see what strange pickings you collect. Rummaging around is half the fun.
